The Tourist Office has concocted surprising visits to discover these magnificent ornaments, marked by several centuries of history. 3 dates are proposed to discover 2 emblematic buildings sharing this priceless treasure: the Sainte-Madeleine church and the Saint-Pantaléon church!

Scheduled on the 19/07, 2/08 and 16/08/2023, this guided tour is simply unmissable for history, culture and architecture lovers! For if Aube counts more than 9 000 m² of stained glass windows, the “Beautiful 16th” of Troy and Aube has bequeathed us, alone, 1 042 bays classified as Historic Monument. A concentration and a quality of stained glass windows that you will not find anywhere else, and of which some masterpieces are waiting for you in the church of Sainte-Madeleine and the church of Saint-Pantaléon in Troyes.

The Genesis, The life of Saint Eloi, The tree of Jesse, or The Triumph of the Cross… The colored bays of the Sainte-Madeleine church reveal some of the achievements of the Trojan School at the beginning of the Renaissance. Bright colors, strong design, these stained glass windows reflect a great refinement in technique, which you can observe more closely during the visit.

Dating from the 15th century, the stained glass windows of the Saint-Pantaléon church will not fail to seduce you either, through their historicized grisailles. Among the most remarkable works, the stained glass windows of the History of Daniel and The Passion mark the birth of a new style in glass painting. Less intensity, more subtlety, but as much refinement and expression.

Following the reopening of the Cité du Vitrail, this visit brings together nearly 9 centuries of stained glass history, from the Middle Ages to the present. The session will take place over a 90 minute period starting at 3pm. It is recommended to arrive at least 10 minutes before the beginning of the activity.
